Mosher Alaska P 1A

During the Australian tour in 2004, Ron Mosher and Dwayne Roark thought that a tour to Alaska would be a great challenge. They outlined what such a tour should include and talked about it after returning home. The Model A Touring Club (MATC) started planning for a tour to Alaska at the same time. Ron and Dwayne made some more definitive plans and decided that they wanted to see many different things than the MATC tour would cover and would drive back to the lower 48 States instead of returning by ferry boat. They planned to travel “lean and mean.” Word of this tour got out to other members and soon they were inundated with requests to join them.

Summer time is high tourist season in Alaska and accommodations are hard to get, especially in the areas Dwayne and Ron were contemplating. In the end they had to limit the size of the group and only the first eight of those requesting the tour were signed on. Eventually, one of these decided to take the MATC Tour instead, so the final number was seven. Fortunately the MATC Tour was also scheduled so that those not able to go on the Mosher Tour could fall back to the club tour.

In their meeting of December 2005, the MATC Board agreed that this tour would also be a “limited participation” tour, sponsored by the club.

While Dwayne and Ron did the route selection, it befell to Carol Mosher to do all the real work of setting up the accommodations. Fortunately, Carol had just entered her post retirement period and could do all the detailed work this required.
