MOSHER ALASKA TOUR
Carol’s Journal

Saturday, June 9th
Hi Everyone:
Just thought I would give everyone an update on our trip.
We left home early Tuesday, June 5th trailering the Woody and drove 545 miles to Fillmore, Utah, where we met up with Janice and Frank Gemmell and Bonny and Sammy Guthrie from Arizona. The next day we drove another 560 miles to Deer Lodge, Montana. Our drive to Deer Lodge was wet and cold. At one point, it was even snowing and the temperature was 39 degrees. A very, very long day.
Thursday we arrived at Patti Jones’ Bed and Breakfast in Thompson Falls, Montana. We were joined by and Lerri and Les Deedon from Fresno. Here is a picture of our cars in front of their home. They live right next to the Clark Fork River. During the day, the guys went over to the neighbors and drove their old tractors. Not quite as fast as Ron’s Roadster!

Go Someplace Else
We left Thompson Falls, Montana, on Saturday, June 9th, for Moses Lake, WA. The drive
was scenic until we reached I-
The next day we were back on small roads driving through the agricultural areas of Washington and along the Columbia River. There were signs along the road as to what they were growing: peas, sweet corn, grain corn, wheat, hay, peppermint and gala apples. We stopped for shopping and lunch in Leavenworth, WA. The town reminded me of Solvang. We arrived in Bellingham late afternoon.where we met up with the rest of our group: Juhretta and Dwayne Roark and Janet and Leon Malson from Oklahoma and Peggy and Richard Boultinghouse from Texas. Now will have a total of seven Model A’s.
On Monday, we met up with the rest of the group: The Roarks and Malsons from Oklohoma and the Boultinghouses from Texas. Now the trip can begin!
Tuesday (June 12) we boarded the Alaska Ferry for Haines, AK. We departed at 6:00 p.m. and will arrive in Haines, AK, on Saturday morning at 2:15 a.m. Ron and I have a 4 berth cabin with sitting room. Which means, we have 2 bunk beds (so no one has to sleep on the upper berth), a table with 3 chairs and full bathroom facilities – not quite like a cruise ship. Our berth looks out on the front deck. There is no formal dining room, but the cafeteria has great food and works out just great for the size of our group. There are nature talks and movies throughout the day. We’ve been playing cards and walking around the deck to get some exercise – 8 laps around is 1 mile!
We can access our cars at designated times during the days. A lot of people have pets that have to be kept on the car level. They get an additional time each day to take care of their pets. There is even a horse trailer on board. To be honest, the smell down there is not so good!!
Our first port will be Ketchikan, AK, on Thursday (June 14) at 7:00 a.m. It looks like we have about 3 hours there. We will give it a try and see what is in the town.
Look for an update in the next few days.
